New Internet Career - Blogger.

Who are the people behind the keyboard? What do they do?

One of the most popular new jobs is actually what some might not consider a job a at all - blogging. Some might not even know that there are people getting paid (very well in some cases) just for writing about what is on their mind. In some cases the people writing all of this content only have two things - a computer and the internet.

You might be thinking "what about an education"? Why pay for expensive schooling when you can get paid to gossip about celebrities - or write about how much you hate Sarah Palin? This is a very complex job and I really probably don't have the skills (patience) to tell you all about it but I did want to write and give some of the basics in case you want to make this your career (or a little extra cash).

First and foremost, PAID bloggers are usually a tool used by companies, individuals, and even the government to spread information. In fact, the blogging world is likely one of the first places new "grassroots" movements are started - its so ironic that we have taken both the grass and roots out of political movements but this is reality we live in. Paid bloggers are generally paid as "contracted employees" - meaning they are paid for content when it is needed but are not guaranteed employment. If the stuff they write is not good - they might not even get paid at all (this of course depends on the entity they are employed with and what the goal of the writing is). Paid blogging is a job just like every other and some people can be naturally good at it. If you have a lot of opinions or have the inside track to stuff others do not - you will likely be blogging gold - but this varies. Paid bloggers might have an agenda - and that is just fine because you know what - ALL MEDIA DOES! Don't expect "Fair and Balanced" to be at the top of any political blog - bloggers don't need to be balanced, or fair for that matter. For instance, "I hate Sarah Palin. I think she is a bitch." is just fine. I say this not only because everyone hates that bitch Sarah Palin but because bloggers are not on the nightly news with TV advertisers to worry about. There is more freedom, and, no, freedom does not have to come with any responsibility. If you think it, you should write it - and get paid for it.

So, I know I haven't been doing a fantastic job "breaking it down" for everyone because that's not my style - I like to have things a little drawn out, but I understand I should probably start wrapping things up. Second, the blogs you read may or may not have paid bloggers - or the blogger(s) on the site could be making money off the blog by having paid advertisements. Some people who blog have no idea they could be getting paid and just do it for fun. Internet advertising can be so sleek you might not even know you are being advertised to or that when you click from one blog to a a product from a store - the page who referred you originally gets a cut of your sale. The whole thing is kind of complicated but some really successful blogs make money by sending you away from the blog to buy stuff and when you leave they put a little tracking code on you so they can continue to make money. Totally sci-fi, right?

Third (and finally), Blogging is a great way to make money (if it is paid) and to express yourself. It is a fantastic medium that requires no formal education (at least at this point - it might become that way in the future) as long as you have a lot of opinions and can express yourself. If you are interested in being a blogger, check out the opportunities on sites like Craigslist - it is a job that will be in demand as the years go by and the sooner you start writing - the better.
