How to Obtain Internet Blogging Gigs
I’ve been writing online for pay ever since I discovered working outside the home was going to be virtually impossible. My youngest daughter has a rare neuro-genetic disorder, and requires 24 hour care. She is sick so frequently that she actually has a medical exemption from school. She attends a special services school, so the medical exemption just covers us from getting in trouble when she misses more days than are allowed for children without chronic medical issues.
Back to working online. Blogging gigs are among my favorite jobs to take on. You get paid to express your opinion, or share a piece of information you learned while doing research on a topic. Finding legitimate blogging gigs, however, takes time. If you follow a few simple steps, you’ll obtain a few gigs that will help you support your family.
First, you need to create a resume. I quickly learned that most legitimate employers seeking bloggers want to see a professional resume. Don’t assume that applying for a job online is any different than offline. Create a resume, and then save it in a word processing program. As you secure online work, you can quickly update your resume.
Second, search the job boards. How do you find a job as a teacher, or a waitress? You search the classifieds. There are plenty of online job boards that employers use to advertise for bloggers. BloggingPro.com, FreelanceWritingGigs.com, and WAHM.com/forum are all examples of great places to find work.
Finally, socialize with other bloggers. You never know when another blogger may need help. I have several friends that share job leads with me, and I with them. This is because we all specialize in a different field. If I see an employer looking for a celebrity blogger, I know who to share that lead with. I wouldn’t know a thing about celebrities, so it isn’t something I would apply for anyway. I recently got a travel writing job simply by networking with another writer.
Putting in a little bit of time each day to hunt down new blogging job leads will eventually lead you into a part-time, or full-time income writing from home.
